Privacy Policy
K-DAILY is a K-pop news summary service operated by Circl ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use K-DAILY, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email circlapp.hq@gmail.com.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address, your username, and a password (managed by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password in readable form). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account name and email address.
- Profile record: your username, email, and the date you created your account.
- Your reactions: which stories you liked (heart) or disliked (broken heart), stored with your account ID.
- Your comments: the text you post under stories, your username, and when you posted.
- Reports: if you report a story or comment, we store your report, your account ID, and the reason you gave.
- Membership records: K-DAILY currently has a limited number of members. We record which membership "seat" your account holds and, if we are full, your email address on a waitlist.
- Technical data: like most websites, our hosting and authentication providers process IP addresses, device and browser information, and security logs.
- On your device: your sign-in session (so you stay signed in on that browser) and a small setting that remembers if you dismissed the "Add to home screen" message.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or payment information. We do not run advertising or sell your data.
2. How we use it
- To create and secure your account, verify your email, and let you sign in.
- To show your reactions and total like/dislike counts on stories, and to display comments.
- To review reports, moderate the community, and manage the member limit and waitlist.
- To keep the service working, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To contact you about your account or about this policy when needed.
3. Usernames and what others can see
Usernames must be unique. Your username and comments are visible to other signed-in members; please don't put personal information in comments. Reaction totals on stories are shown to other signed-in users, and your individual reactions are linked to your account ID, which is not your name or email. The number of membership seats taken is shown publicly. We do not currently show profiles.
3a. Moderation
The K-DAILY admin can view accounts, comments, reports, and the waitlist in order to run the service. We may remove comments or stories, and suspend or remove accounts that break the rules, are abusive, or are reported as harmful. To remove your own comment, use the Delete button next to it.
4. AI-generated summaries and sources
The K-DAILY feed is written by an AI system (Claude, made by Anthropic). To produce it, our server reads publicly available headlines and article excerpts from news sites (such as Soompi, Korea JoongAng Daily, The Korea Herald, and allkpop) and, where configured, public official posts, then writes short original summaries. No information about you or your comments is sent to the AI. Each story links to its original sources, and each story shows a confidence rating. AI can make mistakes, and summaries are not a substitute for the original reporting. K-DAILY is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any of these publishers, artists, agencies, or platforms. All trademarks belong to their owners.
5. Who we share data with
We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms:
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore database) for sign-in and storing account and reaction data.
- Google, if you choose "Continue with Google".
- Cloudflare for hosting and delivering the website and running our server code.
- Anthropic for generating feed summaries from public article text (no user data).
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and security of our users and service. We do not sell personal information.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use browser storage that is necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your install-message choice. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your account, reactions, and comments until you or we delete them, or you ask us to delete them. Security and server logs kept by our providers are retained for limited periods under their policies.
8. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your account and the data tied to it by emailing circlapp.hq@gmail.com from the address on your account. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights, such as objecting to or restricting certain processing or receiving a copy of your data. We will respond within a reasonable time, and within the period required by law where one applies.
9. Security
We rely on Firebase and Cloudflare security features, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and verified email addresses. No online service can be perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
10. Children
K-DAILY is intended for people aged 13 and older (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher). We do not knowingly collect data from younger children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
11. International use
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. By using K-DAILY you understand your information may be transferred to those locations.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as K-DAILY grows (for example, when we add profiles or new features). We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email.
